1-3. Number of Inbound Travelers in February 2009

According to the JNTO, the number of international visitors for February 2009 was 408,800, a 41.3% sharp fall from the same period of the previous year, largely due to financial crises and the depreciation of major foreign currencies against JPY. A major decrease of tourist arrival was seen with markets where the tourist traffic was largely affected by the shift of lunatic New Year to January. From Korea, visitor arrival to Japan was down 54.5% from February 2008, Hong Kong, 60.4%, and Singapore 56.4%. The recent depreciation of KRW against JPY remains to be a discouraging factor for Koreans to visit Japan.
