Monthly JTM Report : Sep 2009
Japan National Tourist Organization announced that the total number of Japanese overseas travelers in June 2009 was 1,001,000, a 21.3% decrease over June 2008.
For June, a decrease in Japanese visitor arrival is obvious with all major countries. Swine flue (H1N1), coupled with declined personal income, discouraged Japanese to travel overseas to reduce Japanese international traffic. A continuous decrease was seen in the Japanese arrival to Canada (-49.8%), Australia (-44.6%), New Zealand (-66.7%), and some countries in Asia; Macau (-34.8%), Hong Kong (-34.2%), and Singapore (-31.5%).
Narita International Airport reported that the number of Japanese departures in June 2009 was 528,202 down 24.3% from the same month of the year before. Kansai International Airport recorded 188,095, (-30.1%), and Central Japan International Airport 92,809, (-36.5%).
