1-2. Number of Japanese Overseas Travelers in September 2009

Japan National Tourist Organization announced that the total number of Japanese overseas travelers in September 2009 was 1,580,000, a 15.3% increase over September 2008. The increase in the international departure is largely due to the five-day holiday which happened to fall upon in the middle of the month this year.
For September, a large increase in Japanese visitor arrival is seen with Korea (+42.9%); as a result of depreciation of Korean Won against Japanese Yen, and China (+17.0%), Macau (+24.8%), Hawaii (+16.7%), and North Mariana (+21.9%). A continuous decrease was seen in the Japanese arrival to Canada (-18.9%).

Narita International Airport reported that the number of Japanese departures in September 2009 was 867,571 up 11.1% from the same month of the year before. Kansai International Airport recorded 323,110, (+18.8%), and Central Japan International Airport 157,914, (+10.8%).
