Monthly JTM Report : Jan 2010
Japan National Tourist Organization announced that the total number of Japanese overseas travelers in October 2009 was 1,359,000, a 0.4% increase over October 2008. Despite the slight increase over the previous year, the travel market has not yet recovered from a sharp decline that began in the summer of 2008 due to the world economy crisis and the rise of fuel prices.
For October, Korea continued to experience a large increase in Japanese visitor arrival (+16.7%) as a result of depreciation of Korean Won against Japanese Yen. Japanese tourist arrival also increased in Thailand (+6.6%), Hawaii (+2.6%) and Guam (+5.7%). A continuous decrease was seen in the Japanese arrival to Canada (-32.4%).
Narita International Airport reported that the number of Japanese departures in October 2009 was 737,927 up 1.1% from the same month of the year before. Kansai International Airport recorded 277,630, (+0.4%), and Central Japan International Airport 131,924, (-11.0%).
