Japan National Tourist Organization announced that the estimated number of Japanese overseas travelers in February was 1,290,000 a 5.1% decrease over February 2009, and that in March 2010 was 1,552,000, a 9.4% increase, respectively. Japanese tourist arrival in February increased in Hawaii (+2.5%), Guam (+7.3%), and Viet Nam (+5.9%), whilst the major Asian destinations saw a decline of Japanese visitors; Korea -21.7%, Taiwan -21.7%, Hong Kong -21.0%. It is largely due to the reduced air-seat supply for Japanese market, which was taken up by the increased demand by Asian travelers visiting Japan during the Chinese New Year that fell on February this year. Despite the decline in February, the Japanese departure during the two-month period of January and February this year was up 0.9% from the same period of previous year.

Narita International Airport reported that the number of Japanese departures in February 2010 was 683,632 down 4.5% from the same month of the year before. Kansai International Airport recorded 277,180, (-4.3%), and Central Japan International Airport 134,494, (-8.9%).
