1-2. Number of Japanese Overseas Travelers in March 2010

Japan National Tourist Organization announced that the estimated number of Japanese overseas travelers in March was 1,552,000 a 9.4% increase over March 2009, and that in April 2010 was 1,213,000, a 0.9% increase, respectively. Among major destinations; China +33.5%, Hong Kong +18.0%, Taiwan +6.5%, Singapore +10.7% saw a growth of Japanese arrivals over the same month of previous year. On the other hand, Japanese arrival to Korea showed a decline for the last four consecutive months. However, the number of Japanese visitors to Korea in the last four months still exceeded that of the respective month in 2008.
Narita International Airport reported that the number of Japanese departures in March 2010 was 811,211 up 9.2% from the same month of the year before. Kansai International Airport recorded 323,440, (+10.4%), and Central Japan International Airport 160,537, (+4.9%).

1-3. Number of Inbound Travelers in March 2010

According to the JNTO, the number of international visitors to Japan for March 2010 was 710,200, a 24.9% rise from the same period of the previous year. In March, Japan experienced a large increase of tourist arrival from major Asian source markets; Korea (+56.3%), China (+22.3%), and Singapore (+41.3%). The figures are, however, still lower than those of the same month in 2008; Korea, -9.6%, Taiwan -6.8% and Hong Kong, -25.8%. China is the only exception showing a 35.9% increase over March 2008.

1-4. Gross Sales of Major Companies (Outbound Travel Products)


Gross sales in outbound travel of the top 50 travel companies were approximately 192 billion JPY in March 2010. It has increased by 6.3% from the same month of the previous year. Gross sales of outbound package tours in March 2010 were 58.1 billion JPY, increased by 2.3% from the year ago, while total number of tourists on package tours increased by 2.7%.
