Monthly JTM Report : Jul 2010
Japan National Tourist Organization announced that the estimated number of Japanese overseas travelers in April was 1,213,000 a 0.9% increase over April 2009, and that in May 2010 was 1,285,000, a 24.0% increase, respectively. The May 2010 figure was 1.3% larger than that of May 2008, indicating that the outbound travel market has fully rebounded from the major decline in May 2009 due to the spread of H1N1 flu. In April, among major destinations; China +22.3%, Hong Kong +17.2%, Macau +25.0%, Singapore +11.1% saw a growth of Japanese arrivals over the same month of previous year, while Japanese arrival to Korea decreased for the last five consecutive months. Beach resort destinations also saw a decline of Japanese visitors; North Mariana -26.4%, Hawaii -1.4%, Guam -1.2%.
Narita International Airport reported that the number of Japanese departures in April 2010 was 633,540 down 0.9% from the same month of the year before. Kansai International Airport recorded 244,640, (-0.3%), and Central Japan International Airport 124,027, (-4.3%). While the three major international airports experienced a decline of Japanese departure, Tokyo-Haneda International Airport saw an increase by 27.5% over the April 2009 figure. Double daily Haneda-Beijing flights that have come into service in October 2009, coupled with the recovery of Japanese traffic to China, have largely contributed to the increase.
