1-2. Number of Japanese Overseas Travelers in May 2010
Japan National Tourist Organization announced that the estimated number of Japanese overseas travelers in May was
1,285,000 a 24.0% increase over May 2009, and that in June 2010 was 1,319,000, a 39.1% increase, respectively. The Japanese departure in April - May 2010 was 2.0% larger than the figure for the same period in 2008, indicating the full recovery from the major decline in 2009 due to the spread of H1N1 flu. In May, among major destinations; China +35.0%, Hong Kong +39.8%, Macau +39.5%, Taiwan +24.2% saw a growth of Japanese arrivals over the same month of previous year, while Japanese arrival decreased in North Mariana(-10.9%) and Thailand(-24.4%) showing remaining concern for the political unrest.
Narita International Airport reported that the number of Japanese departures in May 2010 was
665,199 rose
20.8% from the same month of the year before. Kansai International Airport recorded
252,850, (+18.0%), and Central Japan International Airport
122,964, (+15.4%).

1-3. Number of Inbound Travelers in May 2010
According to the JNTO, the number of international visitors to Japan for May 2010 was
722,000, a
48.6% rise from the same period of the previous year.
In May, Japan experienced a large increase of tourist arrival from all major markets; the arrival from China (+86.4%), Hong Kong (+41.3%), Canada (+18.2%), France (+5.1%), and Germany (+21.2%) hit a record high for the single month in May, indicating the recovery of international travel market.

1-4. Gross Sales of Major Companies (Outbound Travel Products)
Gross sales in outbound travel of the top 50 travel companies were approximately 169 billion JPY in May 2010. It has increased by 22.5% from the same month of the previous year. Gross sales of outbound package tours in May 2010 were 53.0 billion JPY, increased by 6.9% from the year ago, while total number of tourists on package tours increased by 4.7%.
