1-2. Number of Japanese Overseas Travelers in June 2010


Japan National Tourist Organization announced that the estimated number of Japanese overseas travelers in June was 1,313,000 a 38.5% increase over June 2009, and that in July 2010 was 1,413,000, a 10.7% increase, indicating the full recovery from the major decline in 2009 due to the spread of H1N1 flu. In June, among major destinations; China +42.0%, Hong Kong +47.4%, Macau +70.5%, Hawaii +47.8%, Guam +46.3% saw a growth of Japanese arrivals over the same month of previous year, while Japanese arrival decreased in Thailand(-11.0%) showing remaining concern for the political unrest.

Narita International Airport reported that the number of Japanese departures in June 2010 was 700,899 rose 32.7% from the same month of the year before. Kansai International Airport recorded 263,680, (+40.2%), and Central Japan International Airport 133,183, (+43.5%).

1-3. Number of Inbound Travelers in June 2010

According to the JNTO, the number of international visitors to Japan for June 2010 was 678,000, a 59.7% rise from the same period of the previous year.

In June, Japan experienced a large increase of tourist arrival from all major markets despite the further rise of Japanese Yen against major currencies. The arrival from China (+184.2%), Thailand (+68.0%), and Singapore (+100.8%) hit a record high for the single month in June, indicating the recovery of international travel market.

1-4. Gross Sales of Major Companies (Outbound Travel Products)


Gross sales in outbound travel of the top 50 travel companies were approximately 188 billion JPY in June 2010. It has increased by 53.2% from the same month of the previous year. Gross sales of outbound package tours in June 2010 were 53.6 billion JPY, increased by 55.9% from the year ago, while total number of tourists on package tours increased by 47.1%.
