1-2. Number of Japanese Overseas Travelers in July 2010


Japan National Tourist Organization announced that the estimated number of Japanese overseas travelers in July was 1,405,000 a 10.1% increase over July 2009, and that in August 2010 was 1,659,000, a 9.4% increase, indicating the full recovery from the major decline in 2009 due to the spread of H1N1 flu. In July, among major destinations; China +11.2%, Macau +28.4%, Hawaii +8.0%, Guam +7.6%, Australia +66.8%, New Zealand +73.9% saw a growth of Japanese arrivals over the same month of previous year, while Japanese arrival decreased in Thailand(-11.0%) ; showing remaining concern for the political unrest, and Singapore (-4.3%).
Narita International Airport reported that the number of Japanese departures in July 2010 was 774,477 rose 11.5% from the same month of the year before. Kansai International Airport recorded 281,420, (+7.7%), and Central Japan International Airport 137,756, (+6.1%).

1-3. Number of Inbound Travelers in July 2010

According to the JNTO, the number of international visitors to Japan for July 2010 was 879,100, a 38.9% rise from the same period of the previous year. In July, Japan experienced a large increase of tourist arrival from all major markets despite the further rise of Japanese Yen against major currencies. The arrival from China (+143.0%), Thailand (+47.4%), and Hong Kong (+40.8%) hit a record high for the single month in July, indicating the recovery of international travel market.

1-4. Gross Sales of Major Companies (Outbound Travel Products)


Gross sales in outbound travel of the top 50 travel companies were approximately 198 billion JPY in July 2010. It has increased by 25.6% from the same month of the previous year. Gross sales of outbound package tours in July 2010 were 63.5 billion JPY, increased by 27.5% from the year ago, while total number of tourists on package tours increased by 7.5%.
