1-2. Number of Japanese Overseas Travelers in August 2010


Japan National Tourist Organization announced that the estimated number of Japanese overseas travelers in August was 1,642,000 an 8.3% increase over August 2009, and that in September 2010 was 1,542,000, a 3.1% decrease from September 2009 when national holidays coupled with weekend made a five-day Silver Week. In August, among major destinations; China +8.6%, Taiwan +13.8%, Singapore +11.7%, Guam +11.0%, Canada +25.6%, Australia +53.1%, New Zealand +41.0% saw a growth of Japanese arrivals over the same month of previous year, while Japanese arrival decreased in Thailand(-9.3%) ; showing remaining concern for the political unrest, and Macau (-0.8%).
Narita International Airport reported that the number of Japanese departures in August 2010 was 898,186 rose 8.0% from the same month of the year before. Kansai International Airport recorded 327,310, (+5.9%), and Central Japan International Airport 162,463, (+6.5%).

1-3. Number of Inbound Travelers in August 2010

According to the JNTO, the number of international visitors to Japan for August 2010 was 803,300, an 18.2% rise from the same period of the previous year. In August, Japan experienced an increase of tourist arrival from major markets; China (+57.6%), Korea (+29.3%), Thailand (+22.4%), and Hong Kong (+9.5%). While the arrival from U.S.A. (-4.4%) and Canada (-8.4%) decreased, influenced by the further rise of Japanese Yen against major currencies.

1-4. Gross Sales of Major Companies (Outbound Travel Products)


Gross sales in outbound travel of the top 50 travel companies were approximately 241 billion JPY in August 2010. It has increased by 19.7% from the same month of the previous year. Gross sales of outbound package tours in August 2010 were 90.3 billion JPY, increased by 21.3% from the year ago, while total number of tourists on package tours increased by 7.5%.
