1-2. Number of Japanese Overseas Travelers in September 2010


Japan National Tourist Organization announced that the estimated number of Japanese overseas travelers in September was 1,542,000, a 3.1% decrease over September 2009 when national holidays coupled with weekend made a five-day Silver Week, and that in October 2010 was 1,430,000, a 4.8% increase from October 2009. Japanese tourist arrival in September increased in China (+4.0%), Viet Nam (+71.2%), and Guam (+6.3%), whilst the major Asian destinations saw a decline of Japanese visitors; Korea -7.3%, Taiwan -8.4%, Thailand -17.8%, Singapore -14.4%.
Narita International Airport reported that the number of Japanese departures in September 2010 was 853,526 rose 2.5% from the same month of the year before. Kansai International Airport recorded 299,410, (+3.5%), and Central Japan International Airport 145,485, (-7.9%).

1-3. Number of Inbound Travelers in September 2010

According to the JNTO, the number of international visitors to Japan for September 2010 was 717,800, a 34.0% rise from the same period of the previous year. In September, Japan experienced an increase of tourist arrival from all major source markets, including Korea (+83.7%), China (+39.3%), and Taiwan (+32.7%). Korea enjoyed a good sequence of holidays in September this year, and increased air seat capacity thanks to the additional charter flights contributed to the remarkable growth of tourist traffic to Japan.

1-4. Gross Sales of Major Companies (Outbound Travel Products)


Gross sales in outbound travel of the top 50 travel companies were approximately 222 billion JPY in September 2010. It has decreased by 1.7% from the same month of the previous year. Gross sales of outbound package tours in September 2010 were 71.6 billion JPY, decreased by 5.1% from the year ago, while total number of tourists on package tours decreased by 12.8%.
