  • The Japan National Tourism Organization announced that the estimated number of Japanese overseas travelers in 2016 was 17.1 million, about 0.9 million more than 2015 and showed an increase for the first time in 4 years (+5.6% from 2015).

FEATURED

  • By destination, destinations including South Korea, Taiwan, Vietnam and New Zealand all saw a two-digit increase of Japanese visitors in the yearly figure. Besides, more Japanese went to Thailand, Hong Kong, Macau compared to 2015. Among the resort destinations, Hawaii did not see a great change in the total number of Japanese visitors in 2016 compared to the previous year.

Japanese Visits Abroad by Airport and Seaport 13 February 2017

FEATURED

  • Narita International Airport reported that the number of Japanese departures in November was 556,593, a 8.1% increase compared to November 2015. Japanese departures from Haneda Airport increased to 382,900 (+13.5%). The number of Japanese international departures from main airports including Kansai International Airport (270,802, +10.5%), Central Japan International Airport (118,570, +2.5%), Fukuoka Airport (81,417, +17.6%) and Naha Airport (9,921, +37.1%) all saw an increase in November. On the other hand, Port of Hakata decreased by 6.4% to 4,265.
