Foreign Visitors to Japan (Monthly Trends)
According to Japan National Tourism Organization (JNTO), the estimated number of international travelers to Japan in August 2026 was 3,098,900 (-9.6% compared to 2025). While the figures for July were roughly the same as those of the same month the previous year, August saw a shift to a decline.

Foreign Visitors to Japan by Country/Region (Monthly)
Breaking down the number of foreign visitors to Japan in August 2026 by country and region, South Korea ranked first with 850,500 visitors, followed by Taiwan with 666,000 visitors, and China with 418,000 visitors. Although South Korea (+28.7%) and Taiwan (+7.3%) showed upward trends compared to the same month last year, the significant decline in China (-59.0%) appears to be the reason for the overall year-on-year decrease.
