Outbound Travelers from Japan (Monthly)
According to preliminary figures from the Immigration Service Agency of Japan, the number of Japanese overseas travelers in August 2026 accounted for 1,588,597 -3.6% compared to August 2025. Despite it being the summer vacation period, figures have shifted to a year-on-year decline; the depreciation of the yen and rising prices are considered to be contributing factors.

Looking at the number of Japanese departures in August 2026 by country/region, South Korea had 418,698, the United States had 226,912, and Taiwan had 116,582. The United States, in particular, saw a 7.2% year-on-year decline, reflecting the impact of the weak yen.

Outbound Travelers by Airport/Seaport (Monthly)
The number of international departures by airport in August 2026 was 519,370 for Narita, 497,042 for Haneda, and 311,108 for Kansai. While the number of departing travelers decreased at all airports, Hakata Port was the only location to see an increase.
