JTB Tourism Research & Consulting Co. has recently released its “Data Analysis on Japanese Inbound Tourism Trends (issued in February 2020)” – a report describing the latest trends pertaining to inbound travel to Japan. It presents a summary of the current status and future prospects for travel to Japan from six major markets (China, South Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Thailand, and the Western market), and how these affect eleven regions in Japan (Hokkaido, Tohoku, Kanto, Koshinetsu, Hokuriku, Tokai, Kinki, Chugoku, Shikoku, Kyushu and Okinawa).

Features of White Papers and Reports

Feature 1: Analysis of the latest data on the current state and outlook of inbound travel demand

This report presents the current status and our proprietary forecasts for inbound travel to Japan as a whole, as well as for the six major markets: China, South Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Thailand, and Europe, the Americas, and Australia. It also includes the current status and our proprietary outlook for inbound travel demand (accommodation demand) by region within Japan.

Feature 2: Highly Accurate Forecasts of Inbound Travel Demand Estimated Based on International Flight Seat Capacity Data

This report presents two types of forecasts: a short-term outlook for the next three months estimated using OAG international seat capacity data, and our forecast for the coming year. While seat capacity trends are linked to both inbound travel to Japan and outbound travel from Japan, since we also forecast outbound travel demand, we are able to provide highly accurate forecasts for inbound travel demand as well.

Feature 3: Trends in Inbound Travel Demand Based on Objective Data

This report focuses on clearly illustrating trends in inbound travel demand (whether demand is rising or falling, and whether the pace of change is accelerating or decelerating) based on objective data.
