Shinobu Ozawa

Shinobu Ozawa
Drawing on his experience in corporate business, tourism product development, inbound tourism to Japan, and roles at the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), he sees the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as a catalyst for change. Taking a sustainability-driven approach, he is actively involved in regional tourism planning, supporting sustainability initiatives, and conducting a wide range of research and surveys.

経歴

He was born in Osaka Prefecture in 1974 and spent his childhood in Costa Rica and Panama in Central America. He graduated from the School of Education at Waseda University in 1998. In 1998, he joined the Japan Travel Bureau (now JTB Corp.), where he worked in sales, domestic travel product development, and inbound tourism. In February 2017, he was seconded to the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) on the recommendation of the Japan Tourism Agency. For three years, until March 2020, he served as a Senior Project Specialist in the Asia-Pacific Division, acting as the UNWTO’s liaison with tourism authorities in the region. In April 2020, he took on his current position, where he is responsible for the global tourism sector, a role he continues to hold today. He holds a Professional Certificate in Sustainable Tourism from the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC).

Operations of the Japanese Secretariat for the "Only in Madrid: Fall in Love with Madrid" Campaign, a promotional initiative encouraging Japanese visitors to Madrid, Spain

As part of a promotional campaign to encourage Japanese visitors to Madrid, Spain, we implemented various initiatives, including a "B2B event highlighting the appeal of Madrid," "advertisements displayed on a chartered Yamanote Line train," "a campaign targeting credit card holders of major department stores," "digital signage displays in Hibiya," and "promotional content on TVer."

FY 2022 Japan Tourism Agency "Project to Promote and Raise Awareness of Green Tourism"

Based on a survey of domestic and international systems and case studies, we clarified the significance of green tourism, specific initiatives, and the benefits of implementing them. We also held a symposium to present the domestic and international case studies compiled through the survey, thereby promoting awareness and understanding among relevant stakeholders in Japan.
